harmless arrows
by Troy Eggleston

aiting in perpetual motion
an occasional wind shivers
our bare bones flaking white
while spring-bellied birds
rise and fall

vivid they glide
like beautiful harmless arrows
pressed against a formidable sky
piercing elements of why
that bury in the back of my mind
like sparklers on the fourth of july
